Intro
The WomDomNom was a phenomenal success. No matter how good our organisation, there will always be ways to improve. It is important to focus on the things that worked and look at ways that we can improve to make the paddle even more enjoyable for not only the paddlers, but also the committee. This newsletter is broken up by day and by key areas. One option is to discuss "What worked well" WWW and "What could be better" WCBB.

* There was a lot of sorting through gear that ideally will not have to be done into the future. Catering need to pack their pantec so that they know where their gear is located.

* Determine when things will be needed as quite a bit of resorting on Thursday morning. Put eskies into Fridge Truck. Non perishable s and tables into "Green Shirt" truck and committee camping gear straight into luggage truck.
* Maybe we do not need the two (2) luggage trucks until Thursday morning, so pick up late Wednesday (by Rotary) and driven down on Thursday morning at 5am - would save a day's rental.
Ordering of food

* The pre order of food "Mick and Paul's" worked extremely well - quality was high and we could send anyone to pick up.
* Having catering size cans form Midwest Foods worked well - eliminated a great deal of rubbish.

* The variety of drinks could be better - use Midwest Foods for alcohol as well, or maybe go with Dan Murphys.

* Yellow Shirt team and Red Shirt team met and organised their respective plans

* Have a "garlic bread, main (4 drop), and dessert" available for $30 - place order at rego time. Served at 7pm (6pm and 8pm option for those that notify us that they require dinner early, or are running late).

* Get paddlers to sign "Single Event Insurance" forms OR even better if possible - include in rego process
* Give padders and crew the opportunity to introduce themselves for 30 seconds.
The start - Thursday morning

* Ensure all bags weigh less than 20kg (advise in guide and newsletters) - have scales and weigh heavy ones. Have spare "Vinnies" bags for people to redistribute belongings, or get those that have these bags on "pack the truck duty".
* Have a designated "Green Shirt Truck".
* Set up breakfast like we did Days 2, 3 and 4 - two tables together (cereal, hot food, toast, tea and coffee and juice, as well as a "snack area" - muesli bars, fruit, water, gatorade, lollies etc for people to get for the morning paddle).
* Do not start serving breakfast until 7.30am.
* Set up long tables for people to sit down - have enough tables for everyone to sit down - on the sealed path that runs through "Oxley Park" - may mean buying an additional 30 tables - transport these in the "Green Truck".
* Get paddlers to use their camp chairs at the start and then place next to the "Green Shirt Truck" for transportation.
* Give maps for "Cale Oval, Narromine" to people moving their cars.
* Have the "Fridge Truck" packed with all breakfast gear on Wednesday.
* Some paddlers weren't comfortable with a religious blessing - maybe have a Traditional Owner?

Are there any major hazards/back ups between morning tea and lunch?

On water - Day 1

* Yellow Shirt team starting to be organised 5 months before event. Selected based on skills and attributes. Training provided. Pre-event comms re responsibilities, roles, equipment required. Well equipped with comms and safety gear.
* Pre event safety comms to paddlers.
* River Safety meetings every night (Yellow Shirts and First Aid) – to debrief on day, discuss improvements, plan the following day
* Feeding back decisions and key points for paddlers from these meetings into the safety briefings to paddlers
* Tail End Charlies (TECs) - well equipped and skilled
* Having Land Crew able to pick up paddlers getting off the water early - fantastic
* Having Catering team being able to provide breakfasts early – on time for our early starts - fantastic
* Paddle instruction by Yellow Shirts to slower paddlers was great
* No one on the water till Captain Nev is on (something we implemented after a paddler drifted down Butlers Falls after lunch on Day 2). Possibly need to enforce this more though.
* Paddlers learnt and did of own accord – single file, 10 secs apart. Especially great at Boral Bridge – no YS stationed there.
* Minimal capsizes – only 5-10% of last year
* Paddlers appreciative of Yellow-Shirts at rapids – many thankyous received.
* On-water First Aid team wearing Red Shirts; well-equipped first aid kits
* Having St Johns Ambulance on land
WWW – Day 1 specifically:
* YS paddled off before main pack – those that had to catch bus had boats set up ready to go before getting on bus
* Set-up at all rapids great - Rapids 1, 2, 3, playground and Ponto all fantastic set ups, only couple of capsizes. All YS except one dropped off at rapids - perfect.
* Good comms between YS without lots of radio use

* All capsized paddlers did have or were offered by YS/RS change of clothes or jacket
WCBB – General for whole paddle:
Pre event:
* Providing Safety Coordinator with Beginners phone numbers 3+ months in advance, so can contact enough in advance for people to attend RCC training days etc. 'Beginner' option in regos to come with the clause that you must no longer be a beginner by the time of the event - ie train!
* Providing Firts Aid co-ordinator with the rego s that said they had first aid cert 2+ months in advance
* Order a debit card for First Aid delegate and Safety Coordinator to share – they have lots of purchases to make
* safety comms – Andy Singh’s newsletter plan plus update and enhance website
During event:
* Designated Emergency Contact person for the event to be contactable by phone or radio at all times during paddle
* Have club boats available (with rudders) to swap out dodge boats (we did use one club boat for this on day 4)
* Leave Western Paddlers trailer (if borrow again) in Dubbo or somewhere more accessible than Narromine
* bottlenecks/queues at rapids where just after MT/lunch (MT & lunch Day 1, Lunch Day 4) + weirs
* YS to point rather than say Left/Right - where possible. Let paddlers know it will be their/river Left and Right.
* Tail End Charlies/Sweepteam:
· - Beach patrol to get everyone on the water in a reasonable time, not too far behind the front of the pack. Process:
· - Land Crew to assist with preventing anyone leaving after TECs have left.
· - Have minimum of 2 Sweeps, 3 if resources available. For towing and all sorts of issues that need to be mopped/swept up. TECs train with loaded boats.
· - Orange arm band to identify Sweepteam.
WCBB - Day 1 specifically:
* 3 days to go newsletter to communicate weather forecast. This was done on fb but don’t know how many people saw it.
* Pull out option at lunch and arvo tea, based on weather forecast.
* Have slow paddlers get on water among the first paddlers – make it clear they do not need to help with pack up

* Have muesli bars out, available for paddlers to take in boats - on all days, but especially Day 2 (longest day). Allow for 2-3 per person per day; any excess at the end can be sold off.

Packup - Day 2

* Start organising Land Crew 5 months in advance, so that we have more Land Crew and are less reliant on Paddlers to pack up.
* One Land Crew person dedicated to ensuring no-one leaves after Sweepteam have left
* Have two (2) designated luggage trucks.
* Have a 20kg bag limit.

* Quick reactions/organisation – rapid after lunch on Day 4, which took us by surprise and we had to quickly pluck a few people out of the water and/or trees and get ourselves set up.
* Boat repair – all sorted (boat repaired enough to be float-towed down, kayaker towed, land pick up arranged, and another boat dropped off for the kayaker).
* Training day came in handy
* Managed to have a debrief of the day, despite it being the last day and people about to leave

Preparation
Breakfast
Scrambled Eggs - mix 8 eggs with 300ml cream (2mins), place in frying pan on BBQ and leave for 3 mins, turn over for another 2 mins - total time 7 mins, place in slow cookers.
Bacon - on BBQ - 10 mins, place in slow cookers.
Corn Fritters - 1 can corn kernels, 80g grated cheese, 3/4 cup SR flour, 1/2 cup, 3 eggs (mix, then cook on BBQ) - total 10 mins, place in slow cookers.
Baked Beans - heat up in sauce pans on BBQ (15 mins) , place in slow cookers
Toast - 4 piece toaster draws 1800W and takes 2.30 minutes to cook
Sausages - 20 mins to cook, place in slow cookers.
Lunch
Place on tables and people serve themselves with tongs and salad servers, once they have washed hands.
Dinner (BBQ)
Mash Potatoes - place 5kg into a pot with 20 litres of water on the gas burner. Leave to boil for 45 minutes, drain, add 500ml cream and mash.
Use used water for initial rinse water.
Tomato, cucumber, avocado salad - cut up and place in salad bowl.

The WomDomNom was a phenomenal success. No matter how good our organisation, there will always be ways to improve. It is important to focus on the things that worked and look at ways that we can improve to make the paddle even more enjoyable for not only the paddlers, but also the committee. This newsletter is broken up by day and by key areas. One option is to discuss "What worked well" WWW and "What could be better" WCBB.

* Paddlers learnt and did of own accord – single file, 10 secs apart. Especially great at Boral Bridge – no YS stationed there.
* Minimal capsizes – only 5-10% of last year

* Providing Safety Coordinator with Beginners phone numbers 3+ months in advance, so can contact enough in advance for people to attend RCC training days etc. 'Beginner' option in regos to come with the clause that you must no longer be a beginner by the time of the event - ie train!
* Providing Firts Aid co-ordinator with the rego s that said they had first aid cert 2+ months in advance
* Order a debit card for First Aid delegate and Safety Coordinator to share – they have lots of purchases to make

During event:
* Designated Emergency Contact person for the event to be contactable by phone or radio at all times during paddle
* Have club boats available (with rudders) to swap out dodge boats (we did use one club boat for this on day 4)
* Leave Western Paddlers trailer (if borrow again) in Dubbo or somewhere more accessible than Narromine
* bottlenecks/queues at rapids where just after MT/lunch (MT & lunch Day 1, Lunch Day 4) + weirs
* YS to point rather than say Left/Right - where possible. Let paddlers know it will be their/river Left and Right.
* Tail End Charlies/Sweepteam:
· - Beach patrol to get everyone on the water in a reasonable time, not too far behind the front of the pack. Process:
- Briefing: paddlers are informed how many minutes they have between Cap’n Nev/Lead Paddler departing, and when the TECs/Sweepteam will depart
- Cap’n Nev/Lead Paddler uses air horn to signify the Lead is departing.
- TECs sound a 5-minute call with airhorn, and again as they leave.
- Anyone not ready should be left behind. Rename TECs as “Sweepteam” to reiterate this, plus anyone who cant keep pace with the Sweeps has to pull out at the next stop (the TEC’s diplomatically did this, with feedback from them being that otherwise some paddlers would still be paddling to Narromine).
· - Land Crew to assist with preventing anyone leaving after TECs have left.
· - Have minimum of 2 Sweeps, 3 if resources available. For towing and all sorts of issues that need to be mopped/swept up. TECs train with loaded boats.
· - Orange arm band to identify Sweepteam.

Preparation
Breakfast
Scrambled Eggs - mix 8 eggs with 300ml cream (2mins), place in frying pan on BBQ and leave for 3 mins, turn over for another 2 mins - total time 7 mins, place in slow cookers.
Bacon - on BBQ - 10 mins, place in slow cookers.
Corn Fritters - 1 can corn kernels, 80g grated cheese, 3/4 cup SR flour, 1/2 cup, 3 eggs (mix, then cook on BBQ) - total 10 mins, place in slow cookers.
Baked Beans - heat up in sauce pans on BBQ (15 mins) , place in slow cookers
Toast - 4 piece toaster draws 1800W and takes 2.30 minutes to cook
Sausages - 20 mins to cook, place in slow cookers.
Lunch
Place on tables and people serve themselves with tongs and salad servers, once they have washed hands.
Dinner (BBQ)
Mash Potatoes - place 5kg into a pot with 20 litres of water on the gas burner. Leave to boil for 45 minutes, drain, add 500ml cream and mash.
Use used water for initial rinse water.
Tomato, cucumber, avocado salad - cut up and place in salad bowl.
Steaks - cook until done, place in slow cookers.
Onions - cook after steaks using the juices of the steaks to add flavour.
Dinner (Spaghetti Bolognese)
Brown 2kg mince, 2 onions, 4 chorizo sausages - add to slow cooker
Heat up 4 jars of Dolmio Sauce in sauce pan - add to slow cooker
