General Information
Meet the committee, teams and paddlers
Without the dedicated committee and support crews we muster for the "WomDomNom", the paddle would simply not happen! Welcome to the 2025 paddle experience! History: The WOMDOMNOM is the major event of the Macquarie River Paddle Club. Our goal is to promote safe paddling on the Macquarie River for large and small groups and encouraging future paddlers. The first WOMDOMNOM took place in 2011 with 30 paddlers. Since then it has grown steadily each year with the skill of the organisers and through the dedicated efforts of the paddlers to share their experiences with family and friends. In 2025 we have a sustainability cap of 50 paddlers and support crew, a moving community of 60 people. It is our great pleasure to evolve with the needs of the recreational paddling community and to continue to host an event that promotes safe paddling on the Macquarie River. |
2025 Charity:
The Charity for the 2025 WOMDOMNOM is the Black Dog Institute, a leading research body into the effects, treatment and prevention of mental illness and mood disorders. Everyone has been touched by the effects of mental illness either by managing a mental illness themselves or loving and supporting someone who is doing their best to manage their mental illness or supporting someone who is supporting someone battling their mental illness or having lost a friend or family member to suicide. Sometimes this is a lifelong journey, sometimes it is only for a short temporary period in someone's life, sometimes it makes for a short life. In whatever form it takes, mental illness affects everyone in some way and mental and physical wellbeing is something we all work at daily.
The WOMDOMNOM has supports the B.D.I and has raised more than $150,000 for the cause. We raise funds through your individual fundraising efforts, your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Strava posts and your donations to the BDI directly or through, your Everyday hero accounts. The WOMDOMNOM is the vehicle upon which you travel to demonstrate that mental illness and its impact on lives can be overcome through: community participation, active lifestyle, being in and caring for nature and nurturing and encouraging others in physical challenges. These are the leading ingredients in overcoming mental illness and living in mental and physical wellness.
Paddling from Wellington to Dubbo to Narromine on the Macquarie River, over 4 days is a substantial physical and mental challenge. We will endeavor to support your efforts through: good nutrition at regular intervals, plenty of sleep and moderate alcohol consumption. It is not surprising that the key ingredients to effectively managing and overcoming mental illness are also the effective ingredients to managing physical challenges.
You are the WOMDOMNOM. For the next four days, you are a moving community of recreational paddlers who choose to support each other and to take that challenge together. By signing up for the WOMDOMNOM you have chosen to share your love of the water and the environment and to share the skills to make the most of the river, the most of camping out and the most of camp life. This is the definition of community, this is the WOMDOMNOM.
So welcome and enjoy the next four days. Remember we can't do this without your help and support. As we introduce the teams, think about your strengths and where you can help things run smoothly over the next four days. Now it is time to meet the people of the WOMDOMNOM!
