2022: Warang Wambuul Cudgegong ( Paddle Macquarie Cudgegong aka Burrendong Dam)
Why are we moving to the dam in 2022?
Since 2021 The Macquarie River has been smashed with high flows of 15-60,000ML. The Bell River has lost 16 acres of land and we just don't know what the Macquarie looks like at the moment. The river has been closed to recreational anything for all of 2022. The Forecast for spring and summer is that the rain will continue and so will the high flows.
In response to climatic conditions which are well and truely beyond our control and adressing a long held and much debated desire to create a multiday paddle on Burrendong dam, Macquarie River Paddle Club has developed the Warang Wambuul Cudgegong- welcome to Wiradjiri country!
Don't be fooled into thinking that this would be an unrewarding paddle, the large exposed spaces on Burrendong Dam can whip up headwinds and choppy waters and provide as much challenge as moving water paddling.
But Fear not! in case of feral weather and forces beyond our control, there are warm snuggly cabins at Mookerawa and Burrendong and we will provide a range of board games so you can sit back, swap paddling stories and knowledge, watch the rain and sneak in a paddle between showers.
